The rain beat down against the window of the Illuminator's home on the small, isolated island of Iona. The man who lived in this home rarely left; he usually just practiced his illuminating in the comfort of his home, usually only leaving when he needed to go buy more food or find more berries. which he used for ink, in the forest.
Though the man didn't get out on the island much, and he didn't spend a lot of time around the other inhabitants, he was still a nice person. Though he wasn't the kind of selfless man he'd seem to be, but he was kind. He was a monk for one thing, so that sort of seemed to be a given.
I suppose it would be important to give the name of this illumination monk, eh? His name was Brother Aidan.
The storm was growing worse, which was normally the sign of a bad omen on Iona. Many people (there were really only 40 people in all living on the entire island) had panicked and had already built escape boats so they could leave the island, and some of them had already left. It seemed to be a logical thing to do. Aidan, though, didn't exactly care; he wasn't being stupid-he had a boat prepared-but he was not afraid. Though he was a master illuminator and a good man, he was lonely, people very rarely went to see him.
This night was particularly bad; the waves crashed on the shores and the wind whipped against the windows. Brother Aidan was quietly making ink by distilling the ink from the berries. He was reading over old manuscripts as he did so, and that annoying scratching that had persisted for the last hour started up again. He sighed in irritation to himself and stood from his stool, tossed his white hood over his long, grey head of hair, and heading for the door, all the while, grumbling angrily to himself. "All of the people in this village are panicking! Why would anyone would be out in this rain??"
He opened the door and looked around, seeing no one, and hearing nothing except for the loud rain that immediately chilled him. "Hello?!" he called. He couldn't even hear his own voice over the rain. He shivered and huffed, shook his head, and turned to walk back inside, shutting the door behind him. The first thing he saw once he had shut the door was a sopping wet, shivering, snow white kitten, probably only a month old, by the looks of it.
"Did you sneak in just now, little one?" he said softly, a warm smile on his wrinkled face. The kitten just shivered, meowing quietly. "Aright, just let me get you to the heath..." He walked over slowly and bent down, picking up the kitten and wrapping her snugly in the folds of his robe, taking her over and placing her on the rug that was in front of the fireplace.
He walked into his small kitchen area and prepared a bowl of warm milk and a bit of meat for the kitten. He went a placed the two things next to the kitten, and she was now asleep on the rug, curled up on the fabric that Aidan was wearing. He chuckled to himself and sat down in the rocking chair, quietly rocking back and forth, watching what the kitten did. He found it odd that she was even here, there were no cats on Iona at all! Maybe she's a forest spirit... he thought to himself. I need to take care of her, he thought, nodding. "Pangur Ban..." he murmured. "That's going to be her name."
And after that day, Brother Aiden and his snow white cat, Pangur Ban, were never separated.

***************
You and Mark had gotten a few days off from having to help clear out dungeons with the guild, so the two of you spent some time together.
It had just gotten dark outside and you both laid in 'The Field of Dreams' and looked at all the stars.
"There are so many stars out there, and when they're all together like this, its just beautiful." Mark stated, you let out a breath, "Yes it is." You smile.
Mark reached out his hand to grab yours, you normally had a problem with people touching you, but here with Mark it felt perfect.
You let out a quiet sigh, "I wonder, how long do you think we'll be here?" You asked, t

Well, Secret of the Kells is seriously one of my ALL TIME favorite movies. Beautiful song, music, storyline (considering the book is real), and believable characters. I highly recommend it! I just decided to write a little drabble about Brother Adian finding Pangur Ban as a kitten.

Funny thing is I was working on a story featuring a class of people called Illuminators but didn't realize there was a real world occupation by the name. Kind of makes me want to go back and give that story another look. Thanks for that.
